During Dr. Fana’s senior year of high school, he got braces. Throughout his treatment, he formed a bond with his orthodontist and saw first-hand the positive impact dental care could have on others. Once he worked as a dental assistant, his mind was made up: he wanted to become a dentist too!
Dr. Fana first attended Florida State University. After earning his undergraduate degree, he obtained his dental doctorate at the University of Louisville. To further hone his skills and expand his knowledge, he completed a residency in general dentistry at the University Medical Center as well. In 2000, he opened Compass Dental, and he’s been living out his dream of helping others as a Highland Park dentist ever since!
Passionate about continuing education, Dr. Fana dedicates a lot of his time outside the office to advanced training. In fact, he has completed the entire curriculum at the world-renowned L.D. Pankey Institute! Plus, he is an active member of the American Dental Association, the Academy of General Dentistry, the Georgia Dental Association, and several other professional organizations.
Of course, Dr. Fana also enjoys using his free time to be with family. He also has numerous hobbies, including traveling. In fact, he hopes to take his family to all of the national parks sometime soon!

I would give 10 stars if I could. My wife and my son were seen at the office today. The professionalism and dedication to the welfare of the patients and their family members is exceptional. My wife has a language barrier and still they were patient and made communication an easy process. She had multiple ongoing issues with her oral health and every dentist around said that they could not see anything. Dr. Fana and his staff are true health professionals and were dedicated enough to find out the underlying issue. I would recommend the office to anybody that needs dental care.

These visits can help prevent future dental emergencies, saving you time, money, and of course your beautiful smile!
When searching for a dentist, the first step you should take is to define what you’re looking for, or in other words, what’s important to you. Usually, it’s a combination of welcoming your dental insurance, affordable fees, flexible payment options, an easily accessible location, a highly skilled dentist, excellent cleanliness and safety standards, and convenient hours.
Additionally, it is important to know what kind of dental care you need, such as a dentist who works well with children, a routine check-up and cleaning, major restorative work, or even someone who does cosmetic procedures. This is important because some dentists are better choices for specific procedures than others.
Finally, it’s important to get a good feel for the practice itself. How do they treat their existing patients? You can find this information by checking sites like Google Reviews and Yelp and even by visiting the dentist’s website for testimonials. You can also peruse the dentist and staff bios to get to know the team before you make your choice.
The cost of a check-up and cleaning in Highland Park can vary depending on a variety of factors including the condition of your individual oral health. Each check-up and cleaning appointment should begin with a patient health history and discussion of any of your questions and concerns. It should also include a thorough examination conducted by your dentist, a professional cleaning, X-rays (if necessary) and an oral cancer screening.
The average cost of this type of appointment in markets across the United States is between $200 and $350. If you have dental insurance, the fees for your check-up and cleaning (including any out-of-pocket co-pays) are negotiated with us by your dental insurance company.
Here in the United States, all dentists must earn either a Doctor of Dental Medicine (DMD) or a Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) degree from one of the nation's 67 accredited dental schools.
Acceptance into dental school requires the student to have earned a bachelor's degree (and typically very good grades) in a major that is heavy in both math and science.
Dental school is a three-to-four-year program which combines both classroom and hands-on learning.
Following dental school, some dentists choose to continue their education by earning one of 12 specializations recognized by the American Dental Association (ADA). These require the student to attend an additional three or more years of dental school training.
Following dental school, all dentists in the US must complete a certain amount of continuing education hours to keep their dental license active.
